URGENT: Juvenile Offender Scheduled for Execution in Southwestern Iran Tomorrow

Iran Human Rights, September 23: According to reliable sources in Iran, a juvenile offender is scheduled for execution tomorrow in Ahwaz’s Karoun Prison (southwestern Iran).
The prisoner, Maher Ayashi, is sentenced to death for reportedly murdering another juvenile during a street fight when he was 17 years and 10 months old. According to sources in Iran, Maher Ayashi is in his twenties now.
Iran has ratified the UN convention on the Rights of the Child, which bans the death penalty for offences committed under 18 years of age. However, Iranian authorities continue their practice of executing juvenile offenders.
Iran Human Rights (IHR) urges the international community to do what they can to save Maher Ayashi’s life. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said: "This execution sentence is a clear violation of Iran’s international obligations. We urge all countries who have diplomatic ties with Iran to use all their channels to stop this execution. The United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon in particular must intervene, because the UN is hosting the Iranian President this week."

12 Prisoners (including three women) executed in Iran; Unofficial news reports five additional executions

Iran Human Rights, September 21Eight prisoners, including three women, were hanged in Yazd Prison (central Iran) on September 19 and four more prisoners were hanged in Qazvin Prison (west of Tehran) on September 21, reported Iranian state media.
According to the official website of the Iranian Judiciary in Yazd, the eight prisoners hanged in Yazd Prison were convicted of drug related charges. The eight prisoners have been identified as:
"R. H." and "M. Sh.", for participation in the possession and trafficking of 10 kilograms of heroin.
"T. Y.", for trafficking 920 grams of heroin.
"R. B.", for possession and trafficking 2800 grams of heroin.
"Z. S." (woman), for possession and trafficking 4 kilograms of heroin.
"N. S." (woman), for possession and trafficking 2050 grams of crack and 495 grams of heroin.
"S. H." (woman), for participation in the possession and trafficking of 1970 grams of heroin.
"Z. S.", for drug addiction and the possession and trafficking of 630 grams of heroin and 51 grams of opium and cannabis.
The official website of the Iranian Judiciary in Qazvin had reported the hanging ofthe four prisoners in Qazvin Prison. Three of the prisoners were reportedly convicted of drug related charges and the fourth prisoner was reportedly convicted of murder. The prisoners have been identified as:
"F. N." (28), for possession of "some amounts of Crystal" and involvement in the manufacturing of alcoholic beverages and other drugs.
"B. N." (43), for possession of 2387 grams of crystal
"R. M." (34), for possession of 938 grams of crystal
"B. A." (26), convicted of murder in 2008
Additionally, at least five prisoners were hanged in Zahedan Prison (southeastern Iran) on September 21, according to "Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran" (HRDAI).

Iran Human Rights, September 19: Two prisoners were hanged in Tonekabon (northern Iran) today, reported Iranian state media.
According to Iranian state broadcasting, one of the prisoners was hanged publicly in Tonekabon’s Shiroudi Square and the second prisoner was hanged in Tonekabon Prison, located in Noshtaroud.
Both prisoners, who have not been identified by name, were convicted of murder.

Iran Human Rights Welcomes Release of Nasrin Sotoudeh and Urges For Release of All Prisoners of Conscious in Iran

Iran Human Rights, September 18: The prominent human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh was released from jail on Wednesday along with several other political prisoners who had been jailed in connection with the post-election protests in 2009.
According to the state run Iranian news agency ISNA, along with Nasrin Sotoudeh several other prisoners have been released. These prisoners include the reformist politicians Feizollah Arabsorkhi, Mohsen Aminzadeh, Mirtaher Mousavi, Mehdi Mahmoudian, Mohammad Ali Velayati and Hassan Zarinpour, said the report. The ISNA report also said that "according to unconfirmed reports the women prisonersMahsa Amrabadi, Mahboubeh Karami, Maryam Jalili, Mitra Rahimi, Farah Vazehan, Zhila Mahvandi and Kefayat Malekmohammadi were also released.
The Opposition website Kaleme (close to Mirhossein Mousavi) reported on Wednesday that seven other women political prisoners had also been released in the previous 24 hours, including the dissident journalist Mahsa Amrabadi, and at least four men, including reformist politicians Feizollah Arabsorkhi, Mirtaher Mousavi and former deputy foreign minister Mohsen Aminzadeh.
Iran Human Rights (IHR) welcomes the release of the human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh and other political prisoners and urges for release of all prisoners of conscious in the Iranian prisons. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the spokesperson of IHR said: " We are very glad that these prisoners are released after spending several years behind the bars just of their political and civil activities, but we should remember all the other prisoners of conscious who are still in prison, such as: the Christian Pastor Saeed Abedini, the student leader Majid Tavakoli who was sentenced to 8 years in prison just for expressing his opinions is still in Rajai Shahr Prison of hasn’t had furlough in four years, the activist Hossein Ronaghi is still in prison despite his serious health condition, the five Azeri civil rights activists Latif Hassani, Mahmoud Fazli, Shahram Radmehr, Ayat Mehralibeiglu and Behboud Gholizadeh were recently sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment only for starting an NGO, Five Arab activists Mohammad Ali Amourinezhad, Seyed Jaber Alboshokeh, Mokhtar Alboshokeh, Hashem Sha’bani Nezhad and Hashem Rashedi are still under danger of execution, and the Kurdish prisoners Loghman and Zanyar Moradi who were sentenced to death based on their confessions under torture, are still on the death row, and there are many more".
"We urge the international community and the Iranian civil society to continue their efforts until all prisoners of conscious are released from the Iranian prisons".

At Least Four Prisoners Hanged at Rajai Shahr Prison Today

Iran Human Rights, September 18: According to reports from reliable sources in Iran, at least four prisoners were hanged in the Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj (west of Tehran) today.
The sources told Iran Human Rights that one of the four prisoners was identified asFardin Mohammadi born in 1989, from the section 6 of the prison and had been in prison for 5 years. The other prisoners who are not identified yet, were from the sections 3, 4 and 7.
All the prisoners who were executed at Rajaishahr today were convicted of murder.
