Three Prisoners Hanged Publicly in Northwestern Iran


Iran Human Rights, January 21, 2015: Three prisoners were hanged in the public in town of Bonab (Northwestern220115-BonabIran) reported the Iranian state media. According to the state run Iranian news agency Mehr, the prisoners were convicted of kidnapping and murdering a 12 year old girl in October 2014. The public hangings took place today, Wednesday 21. January.
According to a local website the prisoners were identified as “Hamed”, “Siyavash” and “Ali”. The report didn’t mention how old the men were.

Young Man Hanged in North-Eastern Iran


Iran Human Rights, January 20, 2015: One man was hanged in the prison of Torqabeh (near Mashhad, north-edam1eastern Iran) Monday morning 19. January. According to the Iranian daily newspaper Khorasan, the 26 year old man who was identified as “M. S.” and convicted of murdering another man under a street fight in 2008, was sentenced to qesas (retribution in kind).

Man sentenced to losing an eye and ear in Iran- IHR urges international community to react

An Iranian man has been sentenced to surgical removal of one eye and one ear as retribution for an acid attack. The sentence has not been implemented yet because no doctors have been willing to carry out the sentence. Iran Human Rights (IHR) condemns the Iranian authorities’ use of barbaric punishments and urges the international community to react. Spokesperson of IHR, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam said: ” Removal of inhumane punishment in law and practice must be a prerequisite for any improvement of relations between Iranian authorities and the international community”.

Public Execution of Two Prisoners in Front of Children

The first public executions of 2015 were carried out in Shiraz this morning. There were 170115-shiraz1bseveral children among those watching the hangings.

Iran Human Rights, January 17, 2015: Two prisoners were hanged publicly in Shiraz (Southern Iran) today. According to the official website of the Iranian Judiciary the prisoners were identified as “S. M.” and “A. M.” and were charged with rape of a woman.
Tens of people and anti-riot police were present at the execution site. There were many several children among the spectators.

Iran Human Rights (IHR) has previously urged UN to ban public executions and other inhumane punishments.

Six Prisoners Executed in Iran


Five prisoners were convicted of drug-related charges. At least 28 people have been executed in the first two weeks of 2015 in Iran.

All the prisoners were sentenced to death by Arak Revolution Court for drug related charges said the report. The prisoners were identified as “Mohammadreza S.” charged with possession and trafficking of 10 kilograms of heroin, “Mohammad A” for possession and trafficking of 3 kilograms and one gram of heroin, “Davoud A” for possession of 3330 grams of heroin and 3 grams of concentrated heroin, “Javad M.” for paticipation in buying and possession of 4300 grams of heroin, and “Mostafa F.” for participation in buying and possession of 4300 grams of heroin, said the report.
One prisoner was hanged in the prison of Sari (Northern Iran) early this morning, Wednesday January 14, reported the official website of the Judiciary in Mazandaran Province. The prisoner was identified as “M. R.” charged with kidnapping and rape of a women, said the report.

Six Prisoners Executed in Iran


Five prisoners were convicted of drug-related charges. At least 28 people have been executed in the first two weeks of 2015 in Iran.

Four Prisoners Hanged in Iran Today


Four prisoners were hanged in two different prisons today. 21 prisoners have been executed in the first 6 days of 2015 in Iran. 
Iran Human Rights, January 6, 2015: Three prisoners were hanged in the prison of Urmia (Northwestern Iran) according to unofficial sources.  According to the sources Iran Human Rights (IHR) has been in contact with one of the prisoners was identified as Saber Mokhalad Mowaneh (Picture), who was sentenced to 5 years in prison forUrmieh_prison_Khaldoonehmembership in Kurdish political party and to death for a murder committed in 2009.
The two other prisoners who were executed in the prison of Urmia today were identified as Sattar Alipour and Ali Eghbaljou, both charged with murder.
Another prisoner was hanged in the prison of Qazvin. According to the official website of the Iranian Judiciary in Qazvin, the prisoner was a young man identified as “A. Kimasi” who was charged with a murder he allegedly had committed in 2010.

Three Public Executions in Iran


According to the official and unofficial reports 17 people have been executed in the first 4 days of 2015.060814-shiraz

Iran Human Rights, January 4, 2015: Three men were hanged publicly in the town of Torqabeh near Mashhad (Northeastern Iran) today. The state run Iranian news agency Fars reported that three men identified as “Mehdi V”, “Ehsan K” and “Mahmood K” were convicted of raping a young woman in one of the villages near Torqabeh.
The report didn’t mention the age of the men and the exact time of the offence.
Mehdi and Ehsan were sentenced to death by public execution convicted of rape, while Mahmood was sentenced to 100 lashes and public execution for threatening and raping the woman, said the report.
On January 1, one man was hanged  in Qazvin, while according to unofficial sources 13 prisoners were hanged in three different prisons on January 1. These include four women in Bam, 7 prisoners in Kerman and two prisoners in Bandar Abbas.

One Man Was Hanged For Drug-Related Charges in Iran

The first day of 2015 started with the execution of one man in Qazvin according to official Iranian sources.

Iran Human Rights, January 2, 2015: One man was hanged in the prison of Qazvin (Western Iran) yesterday morning, 1. January. According to the state run Iranian news agency Fars a 38 year old man identified az “A. Azizi” was arrested together with his wife and 18 year old daughter while carrying 2967 grams of heroin.IMG17281271
The man was sentenced to death while his wife was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The majority of all those executed in Iran are convicted of drug related charges. Iranian authorities claim that these executions are part of the fight against the international drug trafficking. However, most of the people executed in Iran for drug-related charges belong to the marginalized parts of the Iranian society.
